A Night at the Opera: "The Bartered Bride"

alt--

Opera is where a guy gets stabbed in the back, and instead of dying, he sings.”
                                   -Robert Burns

Anyone who's been to an opera can probably relate to the above quote. The world of opera is one in which anything is possible, so long as someone can sing about it.

With opera in mind, UPCES has arranged for an excursion to the National Theatre for a performance of the famous opera "The Bartered Bride" by Czech Composer Bedřich Smetana.

"The Bartered Bride" is the founding work of modern Czech opera, and a permanent part of the world’s operatic repertoire. Inspired by Czech folk tale, the opera is a romantic comedy of star-crossed lovers, filled with tenderness, intelligent wit, hyperbole, and commentary on life in the Czech village.

The performance will take place at the National Theatre, one of Prague's storied performance hall.

UPCES students can RSVP to attend this cultural excursion on our Facebook Events Page.
