UPCES Spring '15 students have nearly completed their first week of Orientation here in the palatial rooms of CERGE-EI. In the past few days, we've covered everything from how to get around the city to some fun ice-breaker activities to flat-hunting!

UPCES Orientation is designed for a smooth transition to a semester in Prague, both culturally and academically. After wrapping up the "nuts and bolts" of living in Prague at the end of this week, students will begin seeing the city from a new academic perspective. Next week, UPCES faculty members will deliver lectures on culture shock, the history of the region and its peoples, the European Union, and Multiculturalism in Europe.Students will also be treated to film screenings and guided city tours of the Prague Castle and Jewish Quarter. Last but not least, there will be a walking tour of useful locations in the city center, in an effort to make students feel truly at home in their new host city.

Meanwhile, students will be moving into their new flats and getting acclimating to everyday life in Prague. They will also be taking an intensive introduction to Czech language and using their newfound vocabulary on the streets and in the shops and restaurants.

The Welcome Reception on Thursday, February 12th will be a chance for students, faculty, staff, and local Czech partners to relax and enjoy an afternoon in a famous and historic Czech cafe.

To wrap things up, the Spring '15 group will head off on a 3-part day trip to the charming town of Litomerice, in Northern Bohemia.
