Blanka Nyklová, Ph.D.
Blanka Nyklová holds a PhD in Sociology, which she obtained from the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University in Prague (her dissertation concerned the Czech feminist scene). She holds an MA in Media Studies and a BA in Humanities. Besides teaching US students coming to Prague, she currently works at the National Contract Centre – Gender and Science of the Institute of Sociology, Czech Academy of Sciences.
She has cooperated with several NGOs, such as Fórum 50% (which focuses on gender equality in politics) and gitA (a gender news agency). She has taught at the university level since 2007 on social science topics, such as feminist takes on sociological theory and the gender order under state socialism. She is interested in the gender order of the Czech Republic and the influences that impact it, including its material and visual elements. Besides these academic activities, she has worked at the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic as a translator/interpreter since 2009.
