Dr Marie Heřmanová is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Sociology, Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague and associate researcher at the Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Humanities, Charles University in Prague. In 2021 she was a visiting scholar at the School of Social Sciences and Humanities at Loughborough University, UK. She holds a PhD in social anthropology from Charles University in Prague. Her research focuses on digital rights and freedom of speech, internet communities, social media, online hate speech and disinformation, gender inequalities in online spaces, representation of migrants and minorities in (digital) media. She is interested in the methodology of digital social research, combining digital ethnography perspective with communication studies approach. She is a member of the Studio for applied anthropological research Anthropictures, writes for various Czech and international media and cooperates with the NGO sector as a consultant.
